Are you looking for a fantastic opportunity within the Transportation industry? We’re looking for Shunt Drivers in the GTA!
Wondering what it takes to be a Shunt Driver?
We have all of the details below along with our current Shunting opportunities available at Breakaway Staffing!
What do Shunt Drivers do?
Shunt drivers, or ‘Shunters’, play a crucial role in the transportation industry. They are responsible for moving, or ‘shunting’, loaded and empty trailers from the loading docks to and from the yard.
The work of Shunters ensures that the facility operates smoothly and freight can arrive promptly to its destination.
How can I get a Shunt Driver position?
You may think that you need a special licence to be a Shunter but many companies do not require their Shunt Drivers to have a commercial driver’s licence. This is because the work is done on private property therefore doesn’t require a licence.
Shunt Drivers need to have previous exposure to a fast-paced environment and strong backing up skills. Many yards are very busy and require the Shunters to back up the trailers into tight spaces. This means the drivers need to have strong skills and need to be constantly aware of their surroundings.
Some previous shunting experience is the best way to get a new position as a Shunt Driver. Our positions at Breakaway require 1 year of previous shunting experience.
