How Going Outside Can Help Your Career

June is Great Outdoors Month! There are many benefits to spending time outdoors. And while many of us don’t have the opportunity to spend our full workday outside, there are ways to take a portion of your day and move it outdoors and see the benefits the great outdoors can offer us!

Stuck working inside all day?
The easiest way to see the outdoors when you work inside is to spend your lunch break outside. Eating your lunch or taking a short walk outside after you’ve finished eating is a great way to get up and get active.

Going outside for even a small portion of your workday can have these great effects:

It’s a Nice Change of Scenery

Going outside will help to break up the repetitive cycle of your day and will take you out of your normal work environment (which probably does not offer a lot of natural light) and into the sun which is proven to put us in a better mood. Changing your environment can help to put you in a different mind frame and even spark creativity or help you work out that problem that you just haven’t been able to solve.

It Can Shake Up Your Day

If you’re job involves doing the same work every day or sitting in front of a computer all day then a trip outside can help to shake things up and give you something else to look at. This change can help the days seem shorter and can put you into a different frame of mind entering into your afternoon.

It Reduces Stress

Sometimes the easiest way to reduce stress or anxiety is to step away from the problem or environment causing you stress. Taking a moment to step outside and enjoy the fresh air and the sun can provide a much needed break from the day-to-day work stresses.

It Keeps You Healthy

Many of us spend our days sitting at a desk in front of a computer and that type of work can be detrimental to your health. Taking a small break to stand up, stretch your legs, and get some sunshine can have tremendous health benefits.

Even a tiny portion of your day spent in the great outdoors can have great benefits to your career and your health. Take a moment to enjoy the nice weather and see the benefits of taking some time outside!
